On our recent trip to Port Douglas we decided to do something different and stray a bit away for the coast and rainforest and head into the Tablelands. Being foodies this was the perfect choice. We were picked up from our accomodation at 8am by Brett and so began our culinary expedition. Brett was extremely knowledgable and his information about the different landscapes was super interesting. The first stop was at Emerald Creek ice creamery for breakfast. Pikelets were served in house made ice cream and jam (only downside it would have been nice for the pikelets to be served warm!!). We then headed to Jacques coffee farm for tasting of some coffee liquers and to watch a short movie about the farm which was actually very entertaining and all I can say is “hats off” to the Jacques family for their resilience I am in awe!! We then headed to the Humpy nut world for some delicious fresh exotic fruits and nuts. The store has some fabulous produce, spices and other goodies to purchase which I did with relish!! Now normally on tours one doesn’t always expect a lot regarding lunches however this one was first rate. Each plate had a kangaroo skewer, 2 yabbies a crocodile sausage roll, and barramundi Melba toast and salad. It was delicious (the only downside they hadn’t been advised of shellfish allergy so one plate was a bit smaller). This was washed down with either local beer, cider or soft drink and lemon myrtle tea. After lunch was some “fruit wine” tasting. These were flavours that I hadn’t ever experienced before ( who’d have thought to make wine from passionfruit??). We then headed to Gallo fairyland. As a cheese lover I was in heaven and the tasting plates were huge!!! After this we headed out to the Mt. Uncle distillery for tasting of some lovely spirits (think Gin, Agave spirit aka Tequila and whiskey). Yum !!! The day ended with a side detour to a quiet little spot but the river for wine and afternoon tea. After all that, being properly fed and watered we drove back to our accomodation coming back about 5:30. All in all a fabulous day but suited more for adults only!!!
